DENVER (KDVR) — The town of Breckenridge lined up over a thousand people on Main Street to break the known world record for the longest shot ski -- where people tip skis and simultaneously take a shot.

Every year, the town celebrates Ullr, the Norse god of snow, for a snowy winter season ahead. During mid-December, Breckenridge hosts a parade and bonfire, along with another unusual tradition of creating the world's longest-shot ski.

A shot ski is a ski with four shot glasses attached to it. Four people line up and tip the ski while simultaneously taking a shot.

This year, 1,401 people gathered to break the record for the world’s longest shot ski, which consisted of 503 skis, totaling 2,477 feet in length.

The world record is unofficial because Guinness World Records doesn’t judge alcohol-related content, however, Breckenridge keeps a close eye on the news to ensure they are truly the record holders, according to the Breckenridge Tourism Office.

Breckenridge has been claiming the title every year since 2013, which started with 192 people and 60 skis -- but it's not the only ski town with a shot ski tradition, and they're not the only ones to hold the world record.

The shot ski record has gone back and forth for years between Breckenridge and Park City, Utah. In 2015, Park City began to rival Breckenridge for the record, which is now passed back and forth almost every year, as Park City’s annual event takes place in October and Breckenridge’s event occurs in December, according to the Breckenridge Tourism Office.

This year, Park City took over Breckenridge's title with 1,377 people shot skiing with 1,400 people, according to Park City Shot Ski, although Breckenridge was quick to reclaim the title, beating out the Utah ski town by one person.
