COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Cohoes Intermediate Baseball League (CIBL) has been providing free recreational baseball to the community for over seven decades and now they need the community’s help after a break-in over the weekend emptied the cash register and damaged the clubhouse.

“It's pretty devastating,” said Erynn Fogarty who is the president of the league, she said this break-in, was not their first, “We did have a break-in about a year and a half ago. Someone stole our four-wheeler. And fortunately, that was the only thing that was taken at that time. They didn't get into the building itself.”

But on Sunday afternoon someone did get in. “We're not really sure how it happened. We just had a break-in, our fencing around our windows was ripped down, all of our doors were either open or ajar. Our concession door was kicked in and we had money in our register that was stolen. About $250, give or take.”

It might not sound like a lot, but it’s money the non-profit president said the club desperately needed, “To pay our umpires when they come and umpire the games as well as just obviously making change and all of that.” Fogarty went to explain that they have a GoFundMe set up to help replace the money and secure the building. “We're looking to get some cameras, obviously, to replace the doors that were broken, replace the ceiling tile. We'll be making arrangements to securely fasten all of the outside doors and any entry, any entry ways through the building.”

Cohoes Chief of Police Todd Waldin said they're on the case, “When you steal from that or from a church or, you know, from a charity organization, it's just the lowest of the low.” The chief said the charges are serious, “It would be a burglary and then a larceny for the stealing of the property inside, being the cash. So, felony charge for sure, because they entered with the intent to commit a crime inside the building.”

The chief said he needs the community’s help, “If there's somebody who lives around that area who has any footage that they can check for us or just know that we will be reaching out to them as well. And hopefully we'll be able to close this one quickly.”
