Boston Hilton hotel workers poised to end 24-day strike, will vote on new contract

After 24 days on strike, Hilton workers at two Boston hotels may head back to work this week, the union announced Wednesday.

The UNITE HERE Local 26 workers announced they reached a tentative agreement for a new contract with Hilton Hotels and Resorts on Wednesday. About 765 union workers at four Boston-area Hilton hotels will vote whether to ratify the new contract Thursday.

Workers at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport and Hilton Boston Park Plaza went on open-ended strike on Oct. 6, having been in negotiations with the company since April. If the contract is ratified Thursday, both hotels’ staff will return to work Friday at 4 a.m.

The union said the workers are seeking “meaningful raises, improved benefits, and more sustainable workloads” among their core demands.

The new contract will also apply to the DoubleTree Hilton Boston-Cambridge and the Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites Boston Seaport.

Two Omni hotels in Boston also ended strikes after reaching new contracts on Oct. 20. Workers at the hotels said their new contract included historic wage increases, the maintenance of workers’ healthcare benefits, and improved hiring and severance language.

Hilton workers will host a press conference Thursday ahead of the contract ratification vote.

UNITE HERE Local 26 noted that contract negotiations remain ongoing at other Boston-area hotels.

“Workers from more than 30 Boston properties whose contracts expired on August 31st this year have been negotiating new agreements since April,” the union said in a release. … “Contracts at other Boston hotels, including Marriott- and Aimbridge-operated properties, where strikes have also been authorized, remain unresolved.”
