Body found in wheel well of plane from Chicago to Maui
The wheel well was only accessible from outside the plane, and it wasn't clear how the person accessed the space, according to United.
A body was found in a wheel well of a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Hawaii, authorities said.
The body was found in the well of one of the main landing gears after flight 202 landed at Maui’s Kahului Airport on Christmas Eve, a spokesperson for United Airlines said. The plane, a Boeing 787-10, left Chicago around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for the more than eight-hour flight to Hawaii, landing shortly before 2:15 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
The wheel well was only accessible from outside the plane, and it wasn’t clear Wednesday how or when the person accessed the space, according to United.
The airline is working with law enforcement to investigate, the company said.
The Maui Police Department confirmed it was investigating a deceased person discovered on an incoming flight from the mainland. The investigation was continuing, and the police department had no additional information to share Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson said.
