Pseudonymous owner and operator of the Bitcoin.org website Cobra has predicted the incidents that will take place concerning Bitcoin very soon. According to his post on X, Cobra claimed that a great divide will plague the Bitcoin community. He clarified that there would be two sets of people trying to determine what happens next with Bitcoin.
Bitcoin.org owner discusses his opinions
Cobra mentioned in his post that very soon, there will be a group of people trying to change Bitcoin’s scope and focus. However, he added that another group would want Bitcoin to continue the way it is currently. He said that the party seeking to change the asset to enhance its features and include new functionalities. He said the first group are the ossificationsts, noting that they will strive to enable the security of the network via stability.
Cobra also said that the second group are improvers, who will be trying to improve and revolutionize the through the changes they will specify. Although he did not mention which side he would like to be on, he asked his followers what they would like to see concerning Bitcoin. “Do we keep Bitcoin stable and secure, and take no risks with further soft forks, or do we continue to tinker and make changes to keep improving Bitcoin?”, he asked.
Balancing core values and evolution
Cobra was asked about the likelihood of doing both, keeping BTC focused on its core value while building systems around it. He noted that trying to maintain the core network while trying to make experiments would not happen. He noted that there could be failures from the experiments that could affect the entire system. “The failure of those experimental components would undermine the entire system. Sure, some protocols can have quirky parts, but not money,” he said.
Cobra also mentioned that improving the network would also present problems of its own, sharing that there are risks associated with not improving. He said that if cryptographic problems are discovered, there would be a need for them to be fixed. Before now, he had talked about the leadership crisis in the community, calling for the need for a revival because of the lack of a common vision.
This statement is coming days leading to the upcoming BTC halving. The halving event is scheduled to occur this month with the general crypto market anticipating it. Generally, there would be predictions of BTC hitting new highs, but the asset has been tipped to hit a new high considering that it hit a new all-time high of $73,805 on March 14, 2024.
