Bay Area stores among Advance Auto Parts closures: WARN notices
More than 100 California locations are set to close, including Advance Auto Parts and Carquest Auto Parts stores.
(NEXSTAR) — As part of "a strategic plan to improve business performance," Advance Auto Parts announced earlier this month that it would close more than 700 locations.
While Florida is home to the most locations of any state at more than 500, California has 139 Advance Auto Parts stores (some operate under the name Carquest Auto Parts).
Advance Auto Parts has filed 139 WARN notices with the California Employment Development Department, but some locations are listed twice. You can view the impacted locations in the table below.
Among those listed are multiple in the Bay Area, including stores in Hayward, Pleasanton, Pleasant Hill, San Carlos, San Leandro, Union City and Vallejo.
Advance Auto Parts has labeled all of the locations listed above for permanent closure in the WARN notices. Distribution centers in San Bernardino and Bakersfield have the most impacted employees reported at 171 and 66, respectively.
Varying effective dates are also posted for the WARN notices but all land within February and March of next year.
Advance Auto Parts has not commented on individual closures but said earlier this month that the closure of 523 Advance Auto Parts corporate stores, 204 independent locations, and four distribution centers would help to "improve business performance."
“We are charting a clear path forward and introducing a new three-year financial plan, with a focus on executing core retail fundamentals to improve the productivity of all our assets and to create shareholder value,” Shane O’Kelly, president and chief executive officer, said in a press release.
Advance Auto Parts also plans to standardize its “store operating model” and improve “labor productivity,” while accelerating “in pace of new store openings.” According to its third-quarter update, the company plans to open 60 market hub locations by mid-2027.
Advance Auto Parts, which has been around for nearly a decade, joins a growing list of retailers that have announced store closures this year. For some, like Big Lots and TGI Fridays, the closures came as part of bankruptcy filings. For others, like Wendy’s and Walgreens, the impending closures are intended to boost the company’s overall financial performance.
