WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - Balkan Treat Box, a highly-acclaimed Webster Groves restaurant known for its authentic Balkan cuisine, says it is closed as owners take time to grieve from a personal loss.
On Tuesday, the restaurant announced via Facebook it was closed "until further notice" due to unforeseen circumstances.
On Wednesday, the restaurant announced the family was grieving from a personal loss. The restaurant will be close temporarily.
"We’re taking some time to grieve," said Balkan Treat Box via Facebook. "We’ll be back soon, and we appreciate your patience and support during this difficult time."
Balkan Treat Box was founded as a St. Louis-area food truck in 2016 by Loryn and Edo Balic. They opened a fixed-location restaurant later on at 8103 Big Bend Boulevard in Webster Groves.
The restaurant has pushed for culinary accolades, like James Beard Foundation awards, over the years and was recently named among Eat.com's 37 best restaurants in the St. Louis region. Balkan Treat Box selections can also be found at St. Louis CITY SC games.
