Austin gearing up for swim season, hiring lifeguards
The Aquatic Division of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department on Monday said it is gearing up for the 2025 swim season.

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Aquatic Division of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department on Monday said it is gearing up for the 2025 swim season.
The department explained this includes hiring and training lifeguards, preparing for the annual maintenance closure of Barton Springs Pool, and announcing season passes are available for purchase.
Lifeguard hiring and training
The Aquatic Division said it is looking to hire lifeguards starting at $21.63 per hour. Training opportunities will be available during spring break from March 16 to March 22.
New and returning lifeguards must fill out a job application and complete hiring paperwork before they can register for training. Lifeguards must be 15 years or older, according to the department. For more information, you can visit the department's website.
Barton Springs Pool closure in March
Barton Springs Pool will be closed for routine annual maintenance from March 1 through March 14, according to the department.
The Aquatics Division said during the maintenance period, patrons can visit year-round pools across Austin.
Season passes are now on sale
The Aquatics Division said season passes for the 2025 swim season are now available for Austinites to purchase. Pools will begin charging entry fees on March 8.
The department said season passes will be valid through October 31, 2025, and include parking at Zilker Park.
