ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany firefighter and paramedics helped a woman deliver her baby on Thursday morning. The Albany Permanent Professional Firefighters Association said that Engine 11, Rescue 9, and the Mohawk Ambulance Service responded to the call of a woman in labor and when she was found, she wasn't able to make it to the hospital in time.

While this is not a common occurrence, Lieutenant Paramedic Jimmy McCarroll and Firefighter Paramedic Scott Sanders were able to care for the mom and deliver a baby girl in healthy condition before getting them to the hospital. Baby deliveries can happen on the scene when officials respond or en route to the hospital, it all depends on the situation.

The ambulance carries specialized equipment in case something like this happens, so they are always prepared even if this only happens a few times a year. The Mohawk Ambulance Service and the Albany Fire Department said they are grateful for their partnership with each other and thanked the paramedics who responded to the scene.
