66-Year-Old Man Extradited for 1991 Emerald Hills Murder Dies in Custody
A 66-year-old man extradited from El Salvador for a 1991 murder in Emerald Hills has died while in custody, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday.
A 66-year-old man extradited from El Salvador for a 1991 murder in Emerald Hills has died while in custody, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday.
The inmate, detained at the George Bailey Detention Facility since Sept. 23, was hospitalized on Nov. 15 for shortness of breath and later moved to the ICU due to medical complications.
On Nov. 26, at around 9:13 a.m., authorities were informed of the man’s death at the hospital. His identity has not been released.
Sheriff’s Deputies said efforts are underway to notify his family and the Consulate General of El Salvador.
The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating, while the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
