ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Tuesday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says temperatures will reach the high 40s with blustery conditions this Tuesday.

Local fire departments have responded to the wildfires in Ulster County that brought smoke to the Capital Region. Also, air quality alerts were issued as a result of these wildfires. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Tuesday.

1. Local fire departments respond to downstate wildfires

Local fire departments were sent downstate to help battle two wildfires that have been spreading for a couple of days. Fire crews said neither fire is contained yet and they’re trying their best to keep it away from surrounding communities.

2. Air quality alerts issued due to Whitehouse wildfire

As fires burn across the state, the Capital Region experienced hazy and smoky conditions. It prompted officials to issue warnings about air quality concerns. The Department of Environmental Conservation issued air quality alerts in our area on Sunday because of the Whitehouse fire burning in Ulster County. 

3. Albany Unites to Honor Heroes at Veterans Day Parade

Albany’s annual Veterans Day Parade brought together the community on Monday in a heartfelt show of respect for veterans, drawing crowds from across the Capital Region. People lined the streets to honor those who have served, with marching bands, veterans’ groups, and families filling the parade route in downtown Albany.

4. Blackbirds Tavern in Voorheesville opens for business

Blackbirds Tavern, managed by Druthers Brewing Company, is officially open in Voorheesville at 42 South Main Street. The tavern is open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

5. Hannaford Supermarkets experience cyber security issues

Hannaford Supermarkets is experiencing cyber security issues, confirmed by the parent company Ahold Delhaize USA on Saturday. Hannaford stores, however, remain open and are still accepting all payment methods, including credit card payments.
