2 Vallejo men arrested after high-speed chase that injured officer

(BCN) -- Two Vallejo men have been arrested stemming from a high-speed chase in September that left a suspect outstanding, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said Friday. On Sept. 7 just before 3 a.m., deputies attempted to stop a vehicle going south on U.S. Highway 101 in Cotati for a traffic violation.

The driver refused to stop and led deputies on a high-speed pursuit towards Petaluma. During the pursuit, the driver drove recklessly, including reaching speeds over 100 mph and driving the wrong way on the freeway.

Due to the dangers involved, deputies called off the pursuit.

After deputies ended the pursuit, the driver came upon a Petaluma Police officer and intentionally rammed the officer's vehicle, causing a minor injury to the officer. The suspect's vehicle was located a short time later, but the driver had fled.

According to the Sheriff's Office, an extensive search for the suspect was conducted but the driver was not located. The vehicle was later reported as being stolen from Solano County.

Detectives ultimately identified the alleged driver of the vehicle as Jason Hellman, a 51-year-old Vallejo resident. Hellman was already in custody in San Mateo County for unrelated charges.

On Thursday, detectives and the Sheriff's Office's SWAT team served a search warrant at Hellman's house in the 1000 block of Alabama Street in Vallejo.

During the search warrant, detectives discovered a man inside the house, Adam Jackson, a 42-year-old Vallejo resident. Jackson had a felony warrant for violating his parole in Napa County and was arrested.

A search of the house allegedly uncovered several boxes containing numerous different calibers of ammunition, which Jackson is prohibited from possessing, and approximately three ounces of suspected methamphetamine, the Sheriff's Office said.

Hellman is currently in custody in San Mateo County and is awaiting extradition to Sonoma County for three felony charges, two charges stemming from the high-speed pursuit and one charge for possession of a stolen vehicle. As of Sunday, Hellman was not listed as an inmate in Sonoma County.

Jackson was arrested and booked in Solano County for one felony charge of being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and the felony probation warrant. Since Jackson is not associated with any crimes that occurred in Sonoma County, any prosecution will be handled by the District Attorney's offices in Solano and/or Napa Counties, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the suspected methamphetamine found inside the residence. No charges related to the methamphetamine have been filed at this time.
