2 charged with criminal trespass after disrupting event at Chicago Loop Synagogue, police say

Two people are facing trespassing charges after an incident Wednesday night at a downtown Chicago synagogue, Chicago police said.Adam El Khailani, 19, was charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass while Jenin Alashqar, 20, was charged with a misdemeanor count for criminal trespass and a misdemeanor count for criminal damage to property, police said. About 7 p.m., they entered the Chicago Loop Synagogue, 16 S. Clark St., and began damaging property, police said. Videos shared on social media showed two people being pushed out of the worship area by guests at the event. Shortly after, police officers arrived and placed them into custody. No injuries were reported. Earlier Wednesday, two Jewish DePaul University students who were showing support for Israel were punched outside the Lincoln Park campus. About 3:20 p.m., the students were outside the student center in the 2200 block of North Sheffield Avenue when two masked people punched them, according to a letter to the campus from DePaul University President Robert L. Manuel.
