17-year-old dead after being shot in apartment parking garage near The Domain
A teenager died over the weekend after he was shot during what police said was an attempted robbery in a parking garage for an apartment complex in north Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A teenager died over the weekend after he was shot during what police said was an attempted robbery in a parking garage of a north Austin apartment complex, according to the Austin Police Department.
Carlos Sotelo, 17, was identified as the victim of the incident.
APD said officers responded to a shooting call at Saint David’s North Austin Medical Center on Friday, Dec. 13 around 1:40 a.m. The caller, who is a security guard for the hospital, said a man arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle and had a single gunshot wound.
Officers arrived at the hospital and identified the driver of the vehicle, who was a witness to the shooting. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists also responded to process the scene and interview witnesses.
The investigation showed that Sotelo and other people were in a vehicle in the parking garage of the Griffis at The Domain apartments, located at 3210 Esperanza Crossing, when multiple suspects approached the victims and attempted to rob them at gunpoint, according to APD.
APD said when the driver of the vehicle tried to drive away from the gunman, the suspects fired into the vehicle, hitting Sotelo.
Sotelo was later pronounced dead on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10:28 a.m., according to APD.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 68th homicide of 2024.
