11/08/2024: Windy Friday, Tracking Rain Chances

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:

An approaching cold front will bring a shot of chillier air in later today and into the weekend. It will turn windy Friday with gusts approaching 40 MPH. Next week features several solid, welcomed rain chances for our parched viewing area.

Winds will really pick up as the cold front drops down from the north this afternoon. A shower or two is possible, mainly north of Albany, into this evening... But the front is rather moisture-starved, so we don't expect much in terms of measurable rainfall. Additionally, with low relative humidity levels and gusty winds, coupled with the recent dry weather, risk is high today for wildfire spread. Please use extreme caution with anything flammable or avoid burning altogether Friday.

High temperatures look to be a few degrees cooler that Thursday, with 50s to near 60 degree readings on tap. After a bright start, more clouds will accompany the cold front from our north.

Evening clouds and stray showers will yield to mostly clear skies by Saturday morning as the winds start to lighten up. Low temperatures will mainly be in the 30s, essentially average for this time of year.

A bright but cool day lies ahead for Saturday, a day that will be quite similar to last Sunday, if you recall. Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will struggle to get out of the 40s for the first half of the weekend. Winds will relax by the afternoon.

Clouds will thicken over the course of Sunday ahead of some much-needed rainfall. This is FAR from a drought-buster, but any rain is welcomed at this point and will at least temporarily alleviate wildfire concerns. The bulk of this rainfall will fall overnight Sunday into early Monday. Most guidance averages out rainfall amounts to about a widespread quarter inch. It will turn windy behind the shower activity. After a cold start featuring widespread teens and low 20s, highs Sunday will be in the low 50s for most areas as the clouds thicken up. Veteran's Day, despite on-again, off-again showers, windy conditions, and generally mostly cloudy skies, highs will be able to creep up close to the 60 degree mark with winds out of the south.

Drying out with brighter skies but windy conditions Tuesday with highs in the lower 50s. A nice mid-November weather day expected for Wednesday with highs in the low 50s once again with a good deal of sunshine. Clouding up again for Thursday as an area of low pressure approaches from the west. While it's way too early to discuss precise rainfall amounts, guidance suggests this storm has the potential to bring a bit more substantial rainfall to the region. Some guidance holds off this storm until Friday, so stick with the News10 Storm Tracker Team for updates on these rainfall chances... and maybe even some mountain snowfall chances towards the end of next week!
