A person died in a house fire in Eagle Rock late Sunday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews were first dispatched to 5282 North Townsend Avenue around 11 a.m.
Upon arriving, firefighters were met with “excessive storage” in the home which hampered entry into the home itself as well as the room where the fire started.
“Preliminary reports stated a possible trapped person was inside the structure,” LAFD said in an update issued around 12:30 p.m. “Unfortunately, firefighters did find an occupant who had perished.”
Their identity was not released.
Video posted to the Citizen App shows smoke emanating from the roof of a home as crews fought the blaze from the roof and neighbors gathered at a distance to get a look at what was going on.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire in just over 30 minutes. No injuries were reported, and no surrounding buildings were damaged.
What started the fire was not immediately known. Both the LAFD Arson Unit and LAPD are investigating.
