1 dead, 2 hospitalized after speeding pickup crashes into bay from Harbor Island
Police sought Friday to find out how and why a pickup truck careened off Harbor Island Drive and plunged into San Diego Bay late Thursday.

Harbor Police sought Friday to determine how and why a pickup truck careened off Harbor Island Drive and plunged into San Diego Bay, leaving a woman dead and two others critically injured.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle speed through intersections just after 9 p.m. Thursday, crash into the water and begin to sink.
A woman managed to escape from the truck, and bystanders pulled her to shore. She was unconscious but breathing and was hospitalized in critical condition, according to police.
A harbor police dive team then entered the bay along with lifeguards and found the sunken pickup with a man and woman unconscious and unresponsive inside.
Crews removed the pair from the bay, and paramedics performed lifesaving measures on them at the scene before taking them to a hospital, where doctors pronounced the woman dead. Details on the man’s condition were not immediately available.
Due to her condition, the survivor of the crash has not been able to provide investigators with a statement about how it occurred.
The pickup has since been removed rom the water.
Anyone with information about the incident was encouraged to call the Harbor Police non-emergency line at 619-686-6272.
